Chair of ARA’s Technical Advisory and International Committees, Andy Latham, represented ARA at the International Auto Recycling Congress (IARC) in Berlin on March 20. ARA’s presentation is entitled “Telematics, Data Sharing and Transparency of Vehicle Repair & Motor Claims Process – How this will Impact the Use of Recycled Parts in Vehicle Repair?” This presentation explored the benefits of recycled parts in vehicle repair and how telematics, data sharing and transparency of vehicle repair and claims processes could impact vehicle recyclers, drivers, consumers and repairers, and the re-use of vehicle parts in the future. Telematics, data sharing and transparency will be important aspects of blockchain technology that will tie the whole life history of the vehicle to the actual car. Blockchain technology could show recyclers details of all repairs completed on an individual vehicle, which parts are OEM, used or aftermarket and any parts subject to recalls; helping recyclers to select the right parts for re-use in another vehicle or send them for processing and recycling.
